New Paltz Book has 'insider' view of gay-wedding story
Erin Quinn's "Pride and Politics: The Tale of a Big
Story in a Small Town" wrestles with Mayor Jason West's
historic decision in February 2004 to preside over the marriages
of gay couples in the village.
Her perspective as a local reporter, using all her resources
to stay at the heart of the story as satellite trucks from
encroaching networks enter her
home turf, turns up anecdotes that only a New Paltz insider could deliver.
Her initial bristling at being scooped galvanized her to
dive into the issues and the ensuing sensory carnival that
took over the village for weeks.
A reading and book-signing with Quinn will be held at 7 p.m.
Saturday at Ariel Booksellers on Plattekill Avenue, New Paltz,
and at 7 p.m. Aug. 27
at New Century
Artist Gallery, 530 W. 25th St., New York City.
